MAJOR HUGE MAJOR Problem with my internet connection and what-not

Now that I have your attention....

So I'm on this comp with internet connection and everything, but with my other computer I have none. I freshly reformated but need to install certain drivers on it through Gateway (shitty company) and I need to do it through the internet. Well, my internet doesn't work on the other computer to install the drivers. Everytime I plug in my ethernet cable, it has a padlock looking icon deal and I never get any recieved files/info or anything. It says there is limited or no connectivity all the time as well. This comp has XP Home and the other with Professional.

What the hell is going on?

Anyway, how are you trying to connect to the internet? Through dialup, a highspeed modem, wireless?

Maybe describe this padalock a bit more.

You could always download the drivers you need on your other comp, burn a cd and then install them on the Gateway.

ok maybe because its 2am that im not really fallowing you. everytime you plug in the non formated machine you get the padlock thingie? bla!! has the right idea post more info for further help.

Well, I've got the drivers downloaded and installed. Don't care about that.

Now it's all about how I can get connection. Everytime I plug in my ethernet for my cable, it says limited to no connectivity. It doesn't really have the padlock icon looking deal anymore, but it says something about my IP address and needing to contact my service provider. Blah.

if you are using a cable modem w/out a router, you have to unplug the power to the modem for at least 15 seconds so that it can reset itself and obtain the new ip address. You'll also have to restart the pc your plugging into also.

Hella thanks on that, now to figure out how to get my wireless working again...Any suggestions?

It's a Belkin Wireless Router 10 or 11 mbps (depending on how it's day goes I guess). My Gateway has the PCI card for the wireless and my Dell has a USB wireless dealie. It worked fine and then while I was watching porn one time, it just shut off and never worked again. Never did finish watching it...damn downloads...
