Duel Processors

Looks like the time has come again to reload windows on my machine. My hard drive blew out on me and I figured if I had to reload, I might as well buy some new componets while I'm at it.

So here's my question:

I want to buy a new motherboard and a new processor, and keep everything else I have. Should I buy a mother board that supports duel processors? Or stick with one?

I use my computer a lot with digital video production stuff, and I render a lot of video to MPEG-2. Would the extra money be worth spending?

Oh yeah, and I'm currently using Sony Vegas 5.0 for video editing, if that helps at all.

this isn't a chatroom, and it's the holidays, so be patient for an answer.

first off, a good single proccessor is good enough for demanding editing. dual proccessors i have only seen in server environments and heavy demand proccessing.

secondly, i don't know that much on this paticular subject, i'm just answering until someone who knows better answers.

well considering what you're doing, a dual processor system would do more for you than for most others
the Opteron processors are really good for multimedia, the 200 series being 2 way meaning it processes 2 things at a time, so it is basically 2 processors in 1

the 800 series is 8-way, so it is basically 8 processors in 1!

and there is the 100 series, which is 1 way, 1 processor in 1 (hehe)

a dual Opteron would do very well, but even a single Opteron would act as multiple processors most of the time

how much are you planning to spend on the upgrades?

I suggest you purchase dual Intel Xeon 2.8 GHz along with a good mobo.

before you shell out $3,000.00 to $5,000.00 on a computer

buy you a true mpeg 2 hardward encoder card. they use to retail for 2,000.00 but now they are 500 to 600.00. they will give you true voice sync and better picture quality. they also don't rely on processing power, which can messed up portion of your video if it is dip too low

they do all of the work for you. it is what the hollywood people has use for years. it let hardware do the work for you. they have cheap Imitators out (capture cards) there. they don't give you the same performance. encoder cards encode faster, better, quicker than their software counterparts with perfect audio, video sync. most software missed the ball on the audio, video sync. then again, a lot of people of don't notice that either

plus they don't use up all of your computer resources
