have gateway pc from gateway with win xp. have another pc that has win 98 but crashed. replaced motherboard and have a wireless router to network the two. my question is, can i install win xp with the software that came from gateway or is it only good for the pc it came with?

AFAIk you can use that cd to install XP in the 2nd computer. But you will be restricted in certain ways I guess. You cannot activate the product and use windows updates.

...... just kidding.Microsoft is notorious for its patches and updates. But if you are worried about security , install service packs, ditch IE [ use firefox] , use a 3rd party firewall [zonealarm], a free AV scanner [avast], some spyware/adware protection tools[ ad-aware se & spybot S&D ].

The windows XP is ONLY good for the computer it was bought with. Anything else is considered a copywrite violation. Liz
