Bought a Dell

Ordered on a Sunday night and had her all fired up
on the net and all the programs on her that I wanted,
all files tranfered by 8:30 the following Wednesday night.

So I am sure you are very skilled, but 3 days
I doubt it.

try about 1 and a half days. thats 36hrs straight...so really probably only 24hrs of actual building, loading, overclocking, testing. it's alot easier than you might think...

True this is very impressive indeed, but I only
spent about 4.5 hours total
But I do understand were you are coming from
but my point is building a system is not for everyone.
And this system cost me alot less than
my K6 did 8 years ago. And I can add on to it
and I am very happy (so far) with it.

you said u waited 3 days to get it, then 4.5hrs setting it up. yes? not including the time you took to research what you were buying, and actually place your order online. in all reality 3days is superb time for the delivery, i'm jsut impatient.

you're right, it's not for everyone. but you can't compare something 8yrs. old to the prices today. if it's more than a few months old it's already probably 50% cheaper than when you first got it. computers, electronics, games...alot of things fall under taht "rule".

For the sake of saving time, flexibility, and money, i still think Dell is a bad choice. If you dont mind spending a little more money, and waiting for them to deliver, and not having any kind of overclocking...then they are fine computers.

I had a Dell laptop recently and it had 0 problems. It was slow and outdated of course, with no chance of upgrading or improving...but it had no hardware/software problems like some people say ALL dell machines have. that is totally untrue.

Dell, like most of the other brand name prepackaged box computers, are built and designed for the computer illiterate consumer. Most people who purchase these types of computers don't know anything at all about computer matience and performance.

Yes please do give a price, and when you say upgrade
what kind of upgrades are you refering to.
I did go to newegg today and tried to built a machine
just like the one I bought from Dell but even before I
add in the 17 inch flat screen, printer and free shipping
I am over what I paid for mine, and I have gone back to
the Dell site and the same machine that I got 2 weeks ago
is more today by alot. So I think I did ok with my choice of computers. And if I want to upgrade down the road
I will have no problem doing this, like ram, drives and vid cards
maybe not mobo but who cares on that one, in a few years if needed I will just buy another PC and hand this one down
as I did with my other two. Which will be a perfectly good
word processor, email or net surfing machine.

Can be had for Alot less, my dad jsut bought one and after 1 mail in rebate it was only $50. Fry's had a special. I believe it was Western Digital though.

Generic 56k Modem [add $19.75]

Not really needed unless you have 56K. The mobo should already have a LAN port if you use DSL/CAble. I bought a 56K Modem for $1.99 at Fry's for my gf and it works perfect, ~50kbps normally.

If you can find deals like those and cut back a few dollars, you can have even more to spend in the end on say a nicer gfx card or better Mobo/CPU.

I have 2 dell PC's. A d 8300 and a 8400. My 8400 gives me a few problems. One of them I am thinking of getting a case and just change cases.
