svchost.exe error, now certain functions won't work?

My "search" tool on the windows start button won't function; in certain programs (like yahoo mail), the reply button doesn't work but the delete button does... when i copy/paste, it doesn't work in my word processor....

This started yesterday when a error box popped up with something about svchost.exe

Anyone have any quick-fixes or ideas of what is going on??

well i had a similar problem yesterday and i checked my system for virus and it did find a virus... some lavsan worm. i think that was what the problem was. i formatted my system only to find the error come back again. so i just went to the symantec site and downloaded their fix which helped.i also installed service pack 4 and now my system is completely clean. the url for the worm fix
