first off, sorry if this sonds dumb but... What is aa and af (what does it stand for)? and how would it improve my games?

i got a 6800 btw.

So its something to do with graphics or graphics cards.

Little more info, would be nice.

At a guess I'd say

AA=Anti-Aliasing
AF=Anisotropic Filtering

But thats a guess since you didn't give a context. And I use ATI cards so if this was some special Nvidia lingo I wouldn't know.

It is found on both ATI and nvidia cards. They are setting you can turn up or down or off to inmprove performace or quality. Typicaly you can have 2x, 4x, 8x AA. The higher the number the better the quality. I dont know the settings for af off hand though.

AA - Anti-aliasing - Smoothes out jagged edges of 3D objects
AF - Ansiotropic filtering - Makes distant objects appear clearer

Yeah, basically it just makes things look better without acutally changing anything, but requires a fair ammount of GFX card speed/power.

"AF - Ansiotropic filtering - Makes distant objects appear clearer"

You mean textures...

i have it application controlled, does this mean it sorts it out for me? but bellow it (under a line) it says off for both AA and AF. Should i change it to something else, and what should i change it to for the best results (playable)?
For the options i have
Anti-aliasing: 2X, 2XQ, 4X, 8XS

Ansiotropic filtering: 2X, 4X, 8X and 16X
