Getting New Computer.....

wats up guys...first time posting....I need a suggestion here...my computer just broke..literally...i was playing and game and i heard a loud bang like metal broke....anyways...it wont turn on anymore...its a hp P4 512 ram 2.53 ghz....i wanna get a new computer, thats below 1200....wat should i get...first of all P4, or AMD???...and wat should it be...gateway, dell, VAIO....?????....i also saw some computers at velocitymicro.com....should I rather buy a computer online....would it be cheaper....or should I just go to a store and get it......PLEASE....ANY SUGGESTIONS....IM A BIT OF A NOOB WHEN IT GETS TO THIS!!!....if you think i should buy it online...can you suggest some websites

AMD or Intel... Thats a personal reference thing. AMD if your mostly a gamer is what I say.

About the computer brand... build your own of your up for the challenge. I'm building my first computer next week and I can't wait. But if your not up for it then I'd suggest VAIO cause they look and sound cooler.

Buying pre-built computers would prolly be better at retail stores... idk really. But if your gonna build it definately buy it from the internet since it's extremely cheaper.

I would suggest building your own computer, if that is something you would like to look into. It's cheaper, you know what quality parts you're getting, and you'll learn a lot about computers in the process. I built my first one this summer, and it really wasn't very tough at all. Plus, if something goes wrong, you can always come on here and ask Anyway, a great website that helped me is

That comes to a grand total of $1237.25 and man, that would be a sweet system. You would be able to run any game out right now on high settings very smoothly. Is building your own something that you would be willing to do?

I also recommend builting your own, also Dell and Sony only offer Intel processors, i think gateway does also. So your pretty limited with AMD.

The computer PizzaHut mentioned would be great, for the mobo i suggest the MSI or the Abit 3rd Eye AV8 rather then the Asus.

Socket 754 is a socket made by AMD that is discontinued. It does not allow your RAM to be run in dual channel, and only goes up to the AMD 64 3400+ I believe. Socket 939 on the other hand does allow your RAM to run in dual channel, and is more or less the "socket of the future" for AMD. That is the socket they are currently using for their newer CPU's.
