How do i install XP on a totally blank hard drive? Does a window come up saying to install your OS or is this a job for a techie friend.

no, go to BIOS make sure u boot from cd-rom before the hard drives pop the cd in start your computer and follow the onscreen intructions

Do you just want two hard drives or RAID?

When installing XP remove or disable in BIOS all un-necessary components just keep your gfx card (the older the better), modem and use the mobo's onboard sound to give the install an easier time AND only use GOOD quality memory 256mb (min) and a single stick if possible.

DONT have any networking devices (disable if onboard), pci sound cards, printers/scanners etc installed.

Install each additional device one at time (rebooting after each install).

xp is pretty easy to install, just boot from the cd,..and follow instructions, and do what you want to do.you don't have to have a fast proc if youre running two drives.

click on the link for raid info.

if you want to have extra storage,.having raid o and raid1 isnt a good idea.

hmm,..i think the cd is already bootable so just put the cd in...and ctrl alt del to restart(since its an empty drive...it will boot to nothing)

keep us updated..

if you want the PC for networking and games, format the HDD to FAT32. it is faster (for games) and older OS's (like win98) can read the HDD when you network it

and the XP install is fairly straight forward, the only thing you have to do is enter your name, serial and maybe regional settings. And make sure you have an internet connection when it is installed so you can activate XP

PS. Never give out your serial, especially not for XP
