force file associations in windows 10?

im getting tired of this crap honestly. its like 1999 allover again with software hijacking everything

I installed old windows photo viewer because its faster to preview photos but the file association simply wont save

stupid Microsoft wont let go of their new garbage photo viewer to let me use the old one

I keep selecting to use the old photo viewer for all image files but it does not seem to have any effect just like last time.
it started on my laptop with an update.
now that I had to reinstall windows on desktop it is happening on my desktop as well.
I had no problem changing file associations previously.

need help hacking the windows to manually change them


anyone can point me to pages that explain how the windows file protection works? im assuming that's what causing it not to save.

Have you considered using something other than Microsoft's offers that don't work with Windows 10?

Irfanview is great, Google Picasa 3, there are a lot of choices. I like Irfan for batch editing and Picasa for individual.

Use Winaerotweaker, and I'm sure you'll find a lot more useful things in that as well to change in Windows. It offers pretty much everything I want to change with Windows 10 and I export my settings in case I need a fresh format or setup a new machine.

And YOU are a more than a little grumpy I'd suggest if you're asking for FREE help, being passive aggressive isn't going to win you any points. Being immediately nasty just cause someone said something you didn't like isn't very mature.

It's more difficult than you'd think to re-enable & set the old windows photo viewer as default, but you can follow this guide

eh.... it's a waste of time.
Just when you get that photo viewer working your Windows will auto-upgrade to version 1903 and you'll have to do it all over again. Why bother?
