Ok heres the scenario. I recently came across one thousand dollars, so I could put together a half ass machine for that, or I could upgrade my current machine to where i could play games right now pretty decent.

Idea 1: get a new vid card for my current system. Here are the specs.... amd 2400 plus 2ghz processor, 1024mb pc2100 266mhz ram, radeon 64 mb 9000 video card, 7200 rpm 60gb hd. I was thinking of just slapping a 6800 gt 256 in this thing after the new 512 card comes out in january. Does anyone think this is a terrible way to spend 500 dollars?

idea 2: put together a computer with decent processor and weak type video card like the 5700le 256er or somthing basically skimp on teh vid card til later when i get cash.

id say get a 6800gt and then upgrade your processor and then your RAM...
6800GT =400$
CPU =150$
RAM =100-250$(atleast get pc3200)

no way you should build a new system in my opinion...

im confused you say cpu 150, if i spend 150 on a new cpu that doesnt get me anything better than what i have.

Get a Intel p4 prescott. with a 800mhz FSB and a 1mb cache. Its super fast and cheaper then most processors that dont even perform as good. -(the LGA775 is cheaper then the 478 package.)- I got mine off newegg for $140, also get ram from them too. I built my computer with a $600 bugdet. They have Mushkin 512mb 3200ram for like $65-70 with $5 shipping.
