reinstalling windows

I bought my Dad a computer from BestBuy in Jan. I'm guessing Windows is pre-installed in all laptops from there.

Dad has decided to give me his laptop. Great!

Windows is registered under his name. I'd like to either re-register it to me or reinstall Windows. I think I'd prefer the latter because the computer seems a bit slow and I'm hoping a reinstall will fix that. But if I can just change the name maybe I won't be as tempted to do so :)

Anyway Dad doesn't have a CD for windows. Doesn't remember receiving a CD for it with the computer.

What are my options for Windows?

If it's Windows 10 you should be able to do a clean install without issues. As soon as you go on line it will authenticate as a legal install.
If your laptop has Windows 7 or 8.x you'll need to find the coa key on the bottom or inside the battery compartment before you can do a clean install

And to add on with what JoeC said above, if it's Windows 10, just go into Settings -> Updates & Security -> Recovery -> Restart now. From there, you can choose what type of reintall you'd like to do.
