A new naming and dialing scheme has been developed for use in VoIP telephony.
In addition to using numbers, letters and symbols are allowed for use in the construct of telephone "numbers". As well, your telephone "number" can be as short as 1 character or as long as 30. Imagine being able to use almost all of the 95 characters displayed on a QWERTY keyboard to identify your chosen address. The resuting device address is very similar to a URL.
VoIP has several characteristics which provide dependable, convenient and secure communications using computers, laptops, cell phones, tablets and any other Internet capable devices, and can be used for voice, video, texting and file transfer. It would be a crucial component in managing remote devices securely.
Do you think future IoT growth will again result in an exhaust of addresses like we experienced with area codes? If so, we can avoid that situation AND ease the demand for numbers in the existing system.
Let's get this conversation going!
