I understand that SSD is faster and more efficient than HDD. Does Microsoft require SSD for the Windows 10 update? Or will either work as long as the required amount of space is available?

Since SSD is more expensive than HDD, the general rule is to use SSD for OS & Programs, use HDD for data storage.

You don't need to have SSD to get the Windows 10 update. The space is that matters in this case. Of course, SSD is always a better choice, in my opinion.
