so, i have had a smart phone for about 6 months now. this morning, i decided that i would try to access our online banking website. which since i was in the house, went via WiFi. i quit after the log in page popped up, because there was no visible icon showing me that i was connected securely (the little locked padlock that shows up on my computers). which leads me to the question, is my cell phone secure enough to do online banking, either via WiFi, or regular airtime?

Yes - the webservices that connect in the background will be done through SSL. You won't see a padlock icon through the app, only through the browser.

The app, as long as you downloaded it through the official store, will be fine and will connect securely.

well, my smart phone is a windows phone. so there is no app. i have to go to Google, then look it up.

Not sure how the Windows phone browser looks...but in the URL bar, does it not have the "https" w/ a lock next to it? Is this the stock browser, or a 3rd party browser?

i have installed a Google browser (which is NOT Google Chrome), and of course Internet Explorer. the Google browser does not show the lock, or the https: part. but (and i had to look) the lock shows up in Internet explorer, but not the https: either. there are quite a few so called browsers in the app store, but all of them have weird source names, and i would not trust them to send my mom's Thanksgiving stuffing recipe through. let alone banking info. if i really NEED to do banking away from home, i will use the IE browser since it at least shows the lock. but if i am at home, i will take the time to use a computer, that i KNOW is safe.
