Liquid Cooling

I am building a new computer and was thinking about getting liquid cooling for it. It would be kool making my case light up as the liquid flowed through it and as well keep the computer and very low temperatures w/o the noisy fans running. I got to thinking and I am going off to college and realized that I would be taking this computer on a 2 and 1/2 hr drive to 3 hr at least twice a year. That would mean that I would have to empty out the liquid in the system and put it back in, or leave it there and worry about it spilling out, but koolance systems says the liquid they give is distilled water and if it spills will not harm the computer. The computer will probably cost close to 2,000. Is liquid cooling a good idea or should I just stick with getting some extra fans.

You can get a device from coolermaster thats totally enclosed for cooling your CPU and you don't have to empty this.

As for the distilled water, the second it touches your hardware its no longer distilled so the conductivity goes right back up again.

I did once try a PC in a disused chest freezer. Ie i filled it with water and added some pumps. I set the componants in wierd half plastic half metal material my chemist girlfriend made for me. And them immersed the lot in another liquid she made for me. Covered the thing with heat sensors. It worked too, sort off, intermittently.

Uni's great, they'll let you do anything they don't know about...

What does anyne think about liquid cooling and should i get it. The make up of my computer is:

Remeber the computer will be moving at leat twice a year to college and back.

water cooling is an awesome concept if you do it right. I had it for a couple months and it was expensive to do. Bought a whole kit and had everything running cool. Even put green highlighter liquid in the water and added a blacklight to the comp so it looked tight. It works great but I moved it a few times and it just messed everything up. So if your extremely careful with moving it then you might now have a problem, but I dont suggest it unless you unhook everything. good luck and let me know what you decide to do.

I decided not to go with the liquid cooling. I would love it, but probably on a future computer. I just didn't want to take the chance of the water spilling out onto the components and having to fill and empty every time I take it places. With an $850 processor and $800 vid card, I defintly didn't want to take the chance of screwing it up. Plus I want to get close to $2000 or under in cost of building my computer.

$800 videocard? Get a 6800 Ultra which outperforms the x800 xt pe in most games for $499-549.

Im with GeckoEcho421 on that one. I dont like nvida that much but the 6800 card is definately one of there better ones. Ive seen the ATI 800xt cards for 500 bux now. Zipzoomfly has them pretty cheap if you want to go with ATI.

Good choice about the water cooling. Like you said you would be moving at its too time consuming to empty and refill the water and put it all back together.

Its crap compared to the 6800GT. It only has 12 pixel piplines. Unless of course you buy the Sapphire My VIVO version. Then you can do a bios mod and open up the other 4 piplines. Only works on Sapphire cards though. The other ones have the piplines laser cut.
