My upgrade plan for AMD....

From what I understand some reference boards came with a 1.3v setup when most will run at 1.3GHz at 1.15v. There's also a power reserve as well, so really all they need to do is lower that voltage through software and nothing will change to the user. Most AIB cards I've seen will ship with at least a single 8pin anyways so the PCI-E power isn't even needed.

In either case, the chances of the GPU frying your slot is slim to none, to me it's like the bug with Skylake processors having a few issues with math. Chances are, most will never see that bug.

AIB cards are what im looking into. Vega is also in my radar if i can hold out until Zen at least. My friend wants 2w RX 480s and cant hold out much longer. I suggested a GTX 1070 as an option since Crossfire won't work with all games.

Zen is at least 2017, Vega is looking like a possible October paper launch but I doubt it. They also fixed their draw issue by changing the drivers since the VRM is digitally controlled.
