Are system bus speeds comparable when comparing different chipsets and processors? For example, when comparing AMD and Pentium processors, the AMD may have clock rate of 2.2 GHz whereas the Pentium may have a clock rate of 3.0 GHz. However, because the AMD is more efficient per clock cycle, the two can't really be compared just by their speed. I'm wondering if the same holds true with front-side buses (system buses)? If the Pentium has a bus speed of 800 MHz and the AMD has a bus speed of 400 MHz, does that mean that the Pentium's bus is twice as fast, or do the two processors utilize the bus in different ways, making it an inaccurate comparison?
