hello!

I have a HP Envy Laptop with an

Intel Core i7-5500U CPU @ 2.40 GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.4 GHz

(I copied this directly from the diagnostic tool)

and I am looking at a game where the minimum requirment for a processor is an

Intel Core 2 duo 3.0GHz

My question is, would I be able to run this game? If the requirements is a dual core with that clocking speed, would me having 4 Cores be able to make up for it? If the game required one core with that clocking speed would me having multiple cores be able to make up for it or do I need to have atleast one that meets that speed requirement?

just asking to understand how processors work more.

Your processor has 4 threads, not 4 cores. It'll easily play the game. Being an HP Envy you'll need to worry more about whether the GPU can handle it.

They are referring to CPU Threads/logical cores. Your processor is a dual core and because of the Intel HyperThreading, each core can compute two threads.
