Slow Desktop Loading

Once my desktop is up, it seems to take 30 seconds or more for everything to be "ready" that I can run programs. I've followed tips and tweaks to minimize what comes up on boot, am running a very basic desktop with a "Classic" look and plain wallpaper.

512 K RAM

What can I do to speed up the desktop loading?

San for ad/spyware and virii

Go to start, run and type in msconfig go to the startup tab and uncheck unnecessary programs.

Try an adware destroyer, and you might want to see if you got some virus on your computer. Also try getting rid of too much desktop clutter. That is what slows me down.
