Sorry if i have asked this b4 but i am not a gamer or editor just regular computer user. is it necessary to have thermal paste and a heat sink on a pc I am building? If yes, is a heat sink that is about 10 years old good enough to use and will it hook up ok?

thx

Yes, and yes.

If you're buying a new retail CPU, it will come with a stock cooler.

Heatsinks have to be compatible with the socket / mounting holes of your board.

Mobo is Asus Z170M-PLUS Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Heatsink is a Intel 34017-001, 260-12-150, fhp 6029, 12v dc fujikura.
Can I use it?
thx
