So, this year I am thinking of upgrading my R9 270x to a Nvidia GTX 970.

I would just like to get you guys opinions on it.
I have a couple of questions:
  • Is there that much performance change?
  • My 270x overheats quite a lot, what is heat like with the 970?
  • Is it worth it?

Thanks,
Spicy

Yes
The 970 sips power and puts off little heat
yes.

The 970 beats a 290 and rivals the 290x in performance so there's definitely a big difference.

Thanks for the input :D

What would be your opinions on the 970 vs the R9 390?

And also what GTX 970 should I get?
I'm thinking either Nvidia or Asus.

eVGA.

The 290 and 390 are the same card only with more VRAM. Same for 290x and 390x.

If you game at 1080p the extra VRAM won't really benefit you. On the other hand, if you plan to move to 1440p in the near future you might want to look at a 390x if you can wing the cost.

Thanks, 1080p is fine at the moment as that's all my monitor can take.

Is there any reason for saying eVGA?
