Upgrading motherboard for gaming

I have an i7 4790s, NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 970, 12gb of ram(I know that's plenty but I still want more)

Lol you're trippin over nothing. Instead of more RAM you'd be better off with an M.2 SSD if you got a new board. Still didn't give a budget so we can give you recommendations on something new.

Lol, I just feel like I need more, maybe it's just me. My motherboard looks sad when I open up the case. I'm thinking around $250 or so if that's possible.

You can get a nice Z97 board for around 100. The first board linked is a good board.

Trust me when I say you really don't. I had to leave my main rig in my dining room while I waited for a radiator to come in the mail. I used my old AMD 940BE rig with 6GB of DDR2 and continued playing my regular games with no issues. The only thing you'd need 16GB for is if you video edit 4k content.
