Ok so this is my first post
Im pretty techno savvy however I've never built my own computer before. I speced out my wish list on new egg but thought I'd get some feedback from you guys first.

I wanted to stay under $2200 total. I do a lot of graphic design work and a lot of 3d modeling and rendering, in the near future I will be starting some animation and maybe some light video editing. I dont game much on my PC but i would like to be able to play HL2 and even doom3(doesnt have to run it perfect or anything)

I am open to any ideas however i do need to have...
dual monitors (crt's)
and i would like to stay with 2, 1 gig ram dims.

other then that let me know if theirs anything i should change before i go ahead and order

thanks everyone
-Chuck

I normally wouldn't recommend Intel but in this case it seems it would be much more suited to your needs. That would mean a new mobo and cpu. I'll go look and see whats out right now in that area...

Here is a good cpu- http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-116-183&depa=1

Here is a good mobo for that cpu- http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-127-180&depa=1 .

That will work better for you than the AMD system you pieced together. AMD is okay at everything but GAMING which it OWNS Intel in. Intel is OWNS in mostly everything but gaming, which it still does okay at. And with the mobo I suggested you can get a better brand of video card with PCI Express like this one (my favorite brand)- http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-130-214&depa=1

hmm ok, well thanks for your help, let me know what mobo i should check out. if i do switch over ill need to change ram as well eh?
"nice xcept i woulda gone with a better known brand of ram"--- what brands should i check out? i would like to stay in the same price range too

great help!
so the mem i had picked out was 184-Pin DDR SDRAM, the new mobo has listed RAM:4 240-pin DIMM for Dual-Channel DDR2 533/400 Max 4GB

do i need to change connection type to match the 240 pin?
and should i worry about upgrading to ddr2 mem if i change over to this intel system? (it seems pretty expensive)

-Chuck

This is the best I could find for that- http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-227-020&depa=1

It costs a tad more and it's only 1gb. It will still work very well though. It has the lowest latency settings I could find which should help for the lack of the extra 1gb. It will also run in dual channel very fast... It costs about the same to get a 1gb stick and twice as much to purchase 2gb (1gb x2). And even then they wont be matched to run in dual channel.

ya.... not sure how compatible ram, u probably will have to go ddr2 but i would go for either kingston, corsair, mushkin, ocz, or crucial for memory
