If a reinstall is an option for you, I'd recommend that rather than trying to fix an unmanaged win7. By the way, it may be easier to back up the drivers so you can install them back faster..

well took a final chance before a full clean install by doing a restore from the oldest restore point I found , had to do it a few times, but then it finally checked for updates properly = 180+ updates. Installed updates about 20 at a time and finally it is now fully functional.

Deleted all other programs such as thurnderbird, cashe files, temp files,etc.

Then reinstalled Thunderbird/Mozilla after creating another user account.
