Drive Changed Letter......

I have winXP with SP2 installed and I have an external hard drive which since I installed it (more than six months ago) it appeared as Drive (G
At some point and for unknown reasons the computer started identify this drive as Drive (H which consequently made my quick launch shortcut invalid at the same time.
Why did that happened? Am I suppose to be worried? Also what does the computer recognizes as Drive (G now?
My CR/DVD roms are D: E: F: and then what it was G: now has become H:

have u ever installe a removabale USB drive or similar media into your PC, in between using the external hard drive for the first time and now?

you have to go into disk management [windows key+ r]> diskmgmt.msc and free up that drive letter. if you just created a new partition or logical drive on your hard disk or installed a new device it might have assigned it to drive D: and bumped all 3 of your cd-rom drives 1 letter up alphbetically. you can change drive letters within that console, if you need more explanation list what is assigned to each drive letter on your computer.
