What do you folks think of this System. Specification & Price.

AMD used to have a reputation for being the best video cards for folding but as for today, I'm not sure anymore

Actually, AMD and Nvidia actually are competitive in ppd, BUT NVidia now destroys on ppd/watt.
AMD does run better on double precision which is why they work best for bitcoining.

AMD was never good for folding unless that very recently changed. AMD was always great at Seti and Mining.

In the early days of folding I remember AMD being slightly better than nVidia, then that switched when nVidia came out with CUDA.

Yea, they introduced GPU folding in 2006 and CUDA wasn't released until sometime in 2007. Makes sense. Funny thing is, was reading the Anandtech article from Sept 06 saying how "Nvidia just doesn't have the raw pixel power", enter 8800GTX a month later. Kinda funny.

Folding is Single.
Folding is either.

And even still, SP or DP a GTX 580 is closer to a TItan (which GK110 is still used for workstation today) than a GTX 680. Maxwell will have lower DP results than either (as TItan X does not have DP unlocked like Titan and Titan Black).

Even in a lot of circumstances having a cheap (these days) 580 would benefit more in certain workloads than having a Quadro worth a couple grand just because Kepler DP was so ****, and Maxwell is worse.
