Saw this article on Mashable about an algorithm that could help match up organ donors with recipients and vastly improve organ donation processes. I know with my work at Philips, we are trying to improve healthcare by building diagnostic systems that have the capacity to use modern technology for the cause of medicine.
Its amazing how you learn algorithms in school, as a mere problem solving strategy. But I love how something so simple can now (as in the article) make a significant impact on human lives (through organ donor-recipient matching).
Does anyone else work on anything like this?
Here's the article – pretty cool stuff!
Big Data's Effect on Organ Transplant Wait Lists
Thanks!
