Actually I had to use a windows disk, no acer, All he had was the recovery partition on a failing HD but I was able to still use it somewhat as long as it wasn't getting worked hard, already had to check disk and repair sectors a few times, Maybe If there is a way to make a recovery disk but not really sure how to do that. If it's a option I could try.

Retail, only OEM I have is is widows 8, so I'll try downloading the OEM and try the install again, if not he is ready but not happy to buy another copy, If you don't mind Carnage could you post the link where you download windows, I'm not sure where I put the bookmark. Well f I can download a OEM version that is.
