Windows XP Pro.
Somehow I removed the notification area in the taskbar, it is no longer visible.
How do I make it reappear ?

hmmmm....i'm not sure what you mean,..did you edit the registry...notification area is also know as system tray. should be there unless you edited your registry.

No, I didn't touch the registry.
There was an "icon" just to the imediate left of the "clock" upon which I inadvertently clicked. The "notification area" disappeared.
I have no idea what happened.
When the IT administrator logs on to my pc, the notification area is visible. It appears that something in my user profile is amiss.
If I click on systray.exe, nothing happens.
In the "Task Manager - Processes" menu, systray does not appear.
The start-up programs are working, but there are no icons visible
in the taskbar.
Any suggestions ?

i don't know if this is going to help,..right click on the task bar,...choose properties,..uncheck the "hide inactive icons".

keep us posted

I've tried that.
When I right click on taskbar, go to properties, the "hide active icons" is "greyed-out" suggesting that it is not loaded.

maybe you should ask your IT administrator about this?...if youre not logged in as administrator of the computer,..then you might not be able to fix the prob. anyway,..i'll still look for answers.

I found the fix in Tweak UI.
In " Taskbar & Start " menu, the "show taskbar notification icons"
box was unchecked. I checked the box, rebooted and the icons returned.
Thanks for all of the effort.
