Intel i-series processors: what does the SLBUK or SLBLR mean?

Hi Guys.

In my search for motherboards and processors for laptops, I keep coming across the acronyms attached to Intel i-series processors.

Can anyone let a simpleton like me know what they mean?

Are motherboard CPU sockets pretty much standard these days? For example, if I had a Sony Vaio E-series motherboard, can I select any Intel CPU built for laptops?

Thanks

Ben

It's called the S-Spec #.

Specification (S-Spec) number

It's basically the identification # for that particular model of Intel CPU.

You'd firstly need to see if your CPU is even removable - some lower end laptops solder the CPU onto the board, so they're not replaceable.

Assuming it IS actually a socket, you'd need to find out what socket you're running to find what series is compatible. Then you'd need to find if you can even upgrade CPU's - because if it's not supported by the BIOS, your system won't boot.

Yeah it removable on these vaio models.

Thanks again for the link and the information on the Bios. thats what i needed.

Much clearer.
