Codec trouble!!! Format c:?

I installed ACE CoDecS Pack Pro.
It froze at 100%.
I restarted my comp.
None of my videos play.

I tried to uninstall but got a "External Exception C000001D" error.

ACE placed millions of files all over my HD. What should I do to remove it safely?

I tried this:
-un-install
-un-install (safe-mode)
-install, trying to overwrite installation (got same external exception)
-un-install again

I am lost.
I think I will format unless somebody has a better solution.

I don't want to do sfc /scannow cause I don't want to re-install updates.

I have system restore disabled...lol
I would prefer a format over a restore. But it would be cool to get this fixed faster.

I think I will format. Its more than one month ago anyways. I will wait till i get a new HD from my uncle so I can make an image after re-installing XP. Maybe I will install Linux, too.
