Just make sure the MB can do both SLI and crossfire, I've seen a few that only do crossfire (it's the same as SLI but for AMD cards) not sure if the Z87 or Z97 have the limitations but I've seen a few boards still like that.

A lot do, but the one I had linked him previously supports both.

Missed the link you posted, I had thought they finally finished with only supporting one or the other until I looked for one for myself, A lot of them don't even let you know without digging through all the details on the board.

Easiest way is look at how the slots are configured electronically. NVIDIA requires a minimum of 8x on the second slot for SLI support.
