Is there anyway to speed up older laptops. I have this one laptop with windows vista and it runs super slow.

Well what are the specs of said laptop?

Have you reformatted it? Ran disk check / defrag on the HDD?

Getting a solid state would definitely help everyday performance, as well as increasing the amount of RAM it has (assuming it doesn't already have an ample amount).

Getting off of Vista would definitely help as well, though, since it wasn't very well optimized.

Increase the RAM to 4GB and get an SSD.

Yes an SSD will make a noticeable difference.

Depending on how big of an SSD you want though, the SSD+RAM will probably be close to $120-$180 ($50 for RAM and $70+ for SSD, depending on size).

I would want to make sure the new SSD is compatible with the hardware on your motherboard. Depending on how old it is it might not have SATA hookups.

Installing a lightweight Linux distro like Mint would most likely show the most performance improvement but Linux isn;t for everyone.
