As the title says, I am building my first computer and I would like advice on the parts to use. I not only want to make sure my parts are compatible but also that I am being cost effective. I really want to get the best system for my cash. I am working with a friend who has built computers before and he suggested this site. I would like to thank anybody in advance who can provide assistance in this matter.

CPU:
Option 1: AMD FX-6300
Option 2: Intel Core i5-4460 Haswell Quad-Core 3.2GHz LGA 1150

For the CPU these are the two options I have. I would like to understand what are the differences between the two and which would be recommended. If you have a better recommendation that is not either of these and within the $100-$200 price range please let me know. I would rather not go above $250 for sure.

Motherboard:
Option 1: ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS AM3+

This is the motherboard I have in mind. Please let me know what the best motherboard will be for this setup.

Video Card:
Option 1: HIS IceQ OC H280QC3G2M Radeon R9 280 3GB
Option 2: EVGA SuperClocked 02G-P4-2765-KR GeForce GTX 760

RAM:
Option 1: Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB

I want 8 gigs of RAM that will work with this setup. Any recommendations?

HDD:
Option 1: Seagate Barracuda 500 GB

Case:
Option 1: NZXT Guardian 921 RB ATX Mid Tower Case, Black 921RB-001-BL
Option 2: Rosewill Dual Fans

I really liked the look of Option 1 for cases. I want to know if all my components could fit into a micro case or if I need a mid-tower. If possible please recommend something that looks like Option 1 but if not no biggie.

Power Supply:
Option 1: XFX Core Edition PRO 550W

I am not sure if this Power Supply will work. I think I might need a 750MW power supply. I was also wondering if it would be better to get a modular power supply.

Optical Drive:
Option 1: Samsung 24x SATA DVD RW

This is everything. Please let me know what works and what doesn't. This is my first time building a computer so please bear with me. Once again, thank you for your help.

I'm on my phone so not easy to really get into it in detail but for sure there will be others responding, For the CPU I vote for the I5 due to a few reasons, A big one would be if down the road you may have the cash to spare and upgrade to the higher end I5 and it will be a drop in replacement, The next is debatable because both AMD and Intel are making great CPU's but the I5 I think performs better but can't really research the models you have listed due to being at work on my phone lol, As for cases I'm not a big fan of Rosewill, I do like the NZXT cases but there are tons of good choices that are good as long as they have good airflow you should be set. Now ram I do like the HyperX and have used it but it IS a tad too much $$$. I'm trying to search for some good ram but it will be a few minutes to get it with my slow connection. I'll post back when I find some good choices for you.

Having trouble with the edit so making new post, this ram I'd great timing and speed but $20 cheaper, For the Power supply I would get a little higher wattage just to be safe, Seasonic makes some of the best IMHO This is a great PS and if you wanted modular you can get the same one for $20 I think,

Stickies really do answer questions for new guys ;)

The i5
An Asus H81 motherboard.
8GB 1600MHz cheapest DDR3 you can get. No, brand doesn't matter.
The Asus H81 boards are mATX so you can use a case tailored to that, BUT honestly get a mid tower for future compatibility or PC expansion.
You'll also probably want an OS to run all that lol.

To the GPU, depends on what you want. If you want Shadowplay that is associated with Nvidia, then get the 760. If you want performance slightly above that then go with the R9 280.

Fully recommend that Seasonic PSU, or the non modular brother the S1211.

If budget permits, I highly recommend considering an SSD with this build.

Yes that was the one, Apprently newegg gave issues posting the link with my phone but fixed the link to the non modular going for $65

Put together a list for you. For the case the NZXT is a mid tower not a micro tawer so all will fit with room to expand
PS (the non modular one about $15 cheaper but pick what you like)

GPU R9 280. Went with this one because it's factory OC and has great cooling on it compared to some of the others and is $199 after rebate.

Comes out to $750.92 for a pretty kick @$$ system.

I noticed that my case does not have usb 3.0 is that something i need to be concerned with? Also, the motherboard is a micro-atx will there be any problem fitting it? Will I have the necessary ports? I think that is all the questions I really have. I hope I can get started on ordering the parts soon.

Having USB3 in the front is not a necessity as the board has 2 in the back. The only things that utilize USB3 at the moment would be flash drives and such.

Any mATX board will fit in any standard ATX case.
