new drive not seen by pc

www.bootdisk.com , go here, get a windows 98 or ME bootdisk, install it in a floppy. Then use it to format your HDD.
[ also try using your cd-rom cable and see if it detects..]

im using windows xp pro
I can get into windows but the only problem is the device does not show up it does in the bios. I have always formated in windows under disk manager but it just does not show up will try on another cable

If you get the bootdisk, you can format it from DOS. And try to update your BIOS too.

i have no A drive but the disk is formated but then when tranfering data pc re started and then the drive was lost again
I have not updated bios before but it looks difficult

First of all you need this :

And since you dont have a Floppy drive youll have to burn it to a CD and set your CD-Rom drive to your first boot device.

After that follow the on screen instructions.
