New LCD for gaming / movies

Dear all,
recently my old LCD just died. There is a chance it will be repaired, but I am already looking into new ones.
The old LCD was LG Flatron L1953TR - 19'' native resolution 1280x1024. To be honest I would like the same one. Because I am afraid that my performance in games will drop (GPU - GTX580SC) due to higher resolution or bigger screen.
My another fear is widescreen - not sure if I want it. But I guess I will have to get it one day anyways?
Buying the same LCD or very similar seems silly to me since it feels like a step back.
What do you guys think and what LCD would you recommend?
Will a bigger screen like 20'' or 22'' affect the performance a lot?

i ran 1080 on a GTX560 fro a long time so ur 580 is more than capable to do so. u might how ever see some issues in new games.

Few months back I had to ditch the old 580 finally because it was getting a little long in the tooth but it still played games like BF4 at 1080p with AA and a few settings on ultra.

As to what to recommend, that depends on your budget.
