new drive not seen by pc

it is the second drive just needed for storage and its a seagate Baracuda 7, 120 meg my pc will not pick it up
I have tryed cable select and setting it as slave, neither work.
this should be easy ?

What type of partitions are your both drives using? Is your new hard disk listed in the device manager?

Have you tried using disk managment to check whether your new drive is there? [ Start->run->diskmgmt.msc ]

I was going to format in windows as one logical drive but cant format drive as it is not seen in windows and I dont have a floppy drive.
2800 amd
windows xp pro
80 gig maxtor master
cd re writer and dvd on same cable
1070 meg
gforce4ti
the bios does see the seagate but not windows
drive not sen in device manager

You can try a format with your XP install disc.

i tryed installing from disk but got message that the version on pc is newer eg servicepacks and it will not let me go any further

Installing? I mean, boot with the XP disc and format the baracuda.

i have booted from cd but it does not pick it up in windows so how do I format. do I use dos or something

Make sure the CDrom is configured as primary boot device in your BIOS.

how do I format drive in windows when windows does not pick it up. I have booted from cd but that does not show haddrive so what is the next trick can I use comand promps and what would they be
if my first drive is set as master I can still config the second under cs is that right, just asking
