my new motherboard should arrive w/in a week, so ill be removing my 2ghz p4 and its attached cooling fan from my hp motherboard and putting it on a fresh one and proceding to whatever winXP dishes out

2 main questions

1. how do i get the cpu off the old motherboard and mount it properly on the new one ( the fan has some stubborn latches)

2. will i have to reformat my HD due to " major hardware changes" that will make XP choke?

Yes you will have to reformat Your HDD and re-install XP.... On the other part I'm not sure what you're asking.

Your going to have to figure out how to get the heatsink off unless it uses a normal intel cooler in which case you just flip the levers next to the fan and with a little wiggle remove the assembly. Here is a tip, run the computer a little while to heat up the cpu, this will make the heatsink and the cpu come apart much easier.

probably be easier once i pull the motherboard out of the case

ive just heard that if the heatsink is even slightly off mounted then the processor wont function properly

will the cpu run at full clock speed on the first boot?
