I am currently running Windows 8.1 32 bit. I am just not happy with this computer anymore. It does the usual tasks fine but any type of load seems to put alot of stress on it.

Enermax Black Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Case
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16Ghz - OC'd at 4.13Ghz Stable
ASUS P5B Deluxe P965 Motherboard
Zalman 750W Modular Power Supply w/ Heatpipe Cooling
Zalman 110MM 2 Ball CPU Cooler
eVGA GeForce GTX285 1GB Graphics Card
G.SKILL 6GB DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
SAMSUNG SpinPoint 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s

Not to mention there is an issue with BIOS where sometimes the startup process repeats itself several times before it finally boots to Windows.

How much money am I looking at (if I wanted to be creative with finding parts) to get a pretty decent modern day computer? I would like to run BeamNG, FSX and iRacing with ease...

Why would he need a new OS? Already has Win8.1
Considering some of his issue (besides being an aged machine) is he's running 32bit with 6GB of RAM ;)

Hey, 500-600 aint bad. I do need to upgrade to 64 bit 8.1, or even go to Win7 64 bit though

Any recommendations on the new motherboard, processor, RAM, GPU and OS?
I'd look at the i5 4440, Asus H81 mATX board, and a GTX 760 for starters.

Intel Core i5-4440 Haswell 3.1GHz (3.3GHz Turbo) LGA 1150 84W Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4600 BX80646I54440 - Newegg.com
ASUS H81M-K LGA 1150 Intel H81 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Newegg.com
Team Dark 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model TXD38192M1600HC9DC-D - Newegg.com
EVGA SuperClocked 02G-P4-2765-KR GeForce GTX 760 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 SLI Support w/ EVGA ACX Cooler Video Card - Newegg.com

And if you really want a huge bump in performance I would look at an SSD as well.

It'll cost almost 200 bucks more for the i7 and not exactly worth it unless you are using programs that utilize HT. Yes i7's and i5's are still the top dogs.

Keys have been able to be used on both 32/64bit versions without having to buy a new OS since Vista. So no, he shouldn't require a new OS. Just needs the 64bit disc instead of the 32bit one.

Last time I tried switching on a Windows 7 machine it did not let me use the same key for 64bit.
