Hello everyone, I would like to put together a new PC for my friend. I would love to hear some build opinions for 1000$. I've shopped around and looked at parts myself, but I just want to see other opinions.

What I will be doing with this computer.. playing modern games, video editing, and a looot of general multitasking.

I would like to load the OS on an SSD drive and also have another 1tb HDD.

Also this budget is without the OS, and all pointing devices, speakers ect. Just the complete tower 1000$.

And would you guys recommend like a cheap sound car to enhance sound a bit? Or would it not even be worth it? He is buying some decent budget hifi speakers for the computer and I was wondering how much he could benefit off a sound card without spending 100+

Thanks, and all of your help is greatly appreciated.

For a $1000 you can do a good build, As for the sound card. The on board audio that's coming on the Motherboards are actually really good and play better than most of the old school sound cards I've had in the past so it's kind of a waste. Worst case if you don't think it's good enough you can always add the sound card later on but I would wait and just go with the on board for now. I'm a little short on time but if someone doesn't post a build I'll put one a little later today.

OK plans got delayed, There may be a few things that others may suggest or not but IMHO this is a good build, On the GPU I went with a 4 gig Vram card which is a little more but I just did an upgrade for watch dogs because that was the biggest issue with that game is the need for more Vram, If you want to save a little go with a 2 gig card but I think the extra is nice to have.

Total cost on this build is
$992.91

Alright thank you for your post I'll be looking over it later when I have time

You just stole 1 of Macguires builds!

The posted build is solid though.

He has good recommendations.... What can I say LOL Although I think he would have picked a lesser MB and the build should actually not need the Z97 because I had to drop the "K" CPU to keep it in the price range.

What hifi setup are we talking about? You have to have a high end setup, as in spending quite a few hundred to actually warrant needing anything else. Even still, you can get something like a little FiO to hook up to your audio setup instead of buying a stupid sound card. Yes, stupid. They are not needed anymore besides for audio production.

Yea I would drop the board to a B85 and the i5 to the 4440 so he can afford the 290 or a 780. Also 299 for that MSI is over priced. The 760 is a $250 card and I would not pay more. Other than that I agree with the build.

AH you missed some of my post, I went with a 4 gig card with a explanation why. Other than that I was short on time and didn't have time to research the lower MB's.

760 isn't really enough power with a game like Watch Dogs to handle 4GB of VRAM. Our cards barely are and even still need to OC to 7GHz VRAM to really make use or the 256bit bus bottlenecks. 4GB on lower end cards are only good if you play like a heavily modded Skyrim or something like that.

What about a 2gb GTX 770?, also the speakers are just a 2.1 setup that is 140$ It's not crazy or anything. I did already drop the processor down a bit basically what you all said. Also raised the RAM up to 16gb.
