Recreating Laptop partitions.

One told me to see if I can get another Asus laptop with win 8. The last one told me to take it to Best Buy to get it recovered, since that's where I bought it.

How big was the USB required? To me it sounded like it was just a "boot key" sort of thing that just booted you into the recovery partition, and doesn't actually have the install media on it.

installation - Clean install Windows 8.1 or Windows 8 from OEM key - Super User

I specifically bought the 16 GB USB, because that what's needed for the recovery backup. As I remember the backup took a long time.

Does the USB recovery error message give any other detail other than "cannot find required partitions" ?

I was able to get a Windows 8 OEM ISO and re-install it on the notebook. The OEM installation automatically creates all needed partitions.

I would be nice to get Win 8 Pro OEM ISO, but I could not find any.

I don't remember what the notebook originally had. I can restore the original recovery I created, but that will also restore all the ASUS crap-ware.
