Hi, I bought two Dell laptops from a boot fair, was told they had been formatted, and were blank ready to receive a new system. It turns out they must have had safeboot on them, as there is an extended drive shown on fdisk that I cannot remove, and when booting via hard disk once formatted again it says safeboot corrupt code 92h.

Any ideas on how to fix will be gratefully received.

cheers, Chris

What's a boot fair? The first thing is that you shouldn't have trusted the man who sould you your laptops that said they were already formatted. The hard drives may be damaged, that's the only idea I have.

no its not that. Found the answer now. Safeboot had been formatted over by somebody, but fdisk does not remove safeboot hence the corruption messages.

Answer: downloaded a file called KILLMBR which deletes the main boot record however it was created, Then used Fdisk to create as normal.

Query Closed.
