Audio Problems?

For some reason when I put my head phones in the jack in the front of my computer only the left side works if I barely pull them out a little bit they work fine only when I have them all the way in. I looked and verified all my audio setting where good and they are. I also made sure there wasn't anything in the jack. What might be the problem? and how much might it cost to get it fixed I own an XPS.

By any silly chance do your headphones have a mic built into them like the Iphone headphones and only one plug. If so there are 4 connecting points on the plug and should only be 3, I did that once forgetting and only one worked unless I pulled it out a little, Problem is the contact for one side is hitting the mic. Won't be able to use those if that's the case unless you can find an adapter to split it into 2 plugs. However if there are only 3 contact points on the headphones then one of the contacts in the plug have been bent and not hitting the plug in the right place.
