when i boot up my comp it asks if i want to load windows xp or windows
the only os on it is windows 98. how do i get it not to ask which one i want to load

That is in your boot.ini file. Delete the Windows XP option if that is not the OS you have. If there is only one option available, it will not ask you.

OK, then here's what you can try. Go to your Folder Options under Control Panel and make it so that it displays hidden files and folders. Now, open notepad click on Open. In the file name, type in *.* just as you see it there, then hit enter. Under you C:\ directory, you will find the boot.ini file. Open it and edit the Windows 98 information out of it. But just as a precaution, please backup your hard drive before you do this just in case.
