HI,

I've lost my CD drive, I was told to use cd gone which helps to reinstall CD rom drive but it disappears again.
if I decide to reformat my disk, will I recover my CD rom drive ?

Thanks

Hi Keops,

I had a similar problem in the past... It is probably a problem of windows registry. Try this..

1. type regedit and press enter.
2. Open the Registry key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.
4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.
5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.
6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.
7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

See you soon

HI Zorba,

Thank you for your input.

I don't have upper filter or lower filter , I think I've removed before .
I've downloaded a burning software that messed up my CD Drive, so I've installed the CD GONE, sometimes the CD gone helps to put it back sometimes it disappears again, it means when I insert my DVD into cd rom , it didn't read!

if I reformat my disk, will it fix the CD drive ?

Thanks

Hi Keops,

I suggest you, before reformat disk, to use uninstaller software very useful like Revo Uninstaller (FREEWARE) you can found in internet, try to unistall completely the burning software that created the problem. If you use this software you can easily uninstall also the registry keys.

Keep me informed if you solve ...

I forgot you can try to do a restore point, probably if you go back to a previous restore point you may solve.

I've already removed this software, how do I remove it from regedit?

it happens many months ago so I can't do restore anymore

Thanks

I know I can use system restore but I don't know how far I can go back? I don't want to remove other programmes installed before.
Thanks
