Nah, I wouldn't get a 7970. 325 is respectable for both, but for 300 you can have a 4GB 760 and could add another later. 2 of those would not only have raw performance advantage over the 7950s, but 1GB extra per card.
Just remember, the 770 is a better manufactured 680 but overall the performance numbers are practically identical. I think the 4GB 760s will drop after AMD lays down some new competition so I would just wait it out one more month with the 660ti and see what happens. It can't be that bad, because I'm still getting good frames with a single 580.
