mini DisplayPort DVI help

Hi guys,

ok so i have a alienware laptop mx17r4 and also recently bought a acer 24" monitor which both products support 120hz. The laptop does not have a dvi port so i bought a mini DisplayPort to DVI (adapter).

I tried both passive and active adapters but cant seem to get 120hz on the screen. Would there be any other type of adapter that i should be using? i have searched every where and asked all of the tech shops around here and they have no idea.

i also found this recently and hoping when it arrives it will work

Yeah you'll need a dual link active adapter. Not sure if the one you linked to on eBay will work; it lists 50-60Hz not up to 120hz.

Something along the lines of this is what you want I think:

I was leaving work in a rush, picked the first result that looked correct I'm sure you can find a cheaper model out there
