I'm sorry to say this, but if your going to be ripping and encoding or doing other stuff with streaming video, then go with a p4. *sigh* Otherwise, go with an amd. As always, what you get is what you pay for.
If I were you I'd get any socket 939 amd that fits your budget. It seems that 939 is going to be the socket that amd will use for years to come (upgradable). I've also heard that you'll be able to put 2 amd cpu's into 1 939 socket mobo. Sweeet...
