Help! Identify a "locked" unknown file type

I know very little about computers and need someone's expertise on this:

I recently discovered some photos on my Mac that taken and uploaded originally onto a PC. The photos all contain file names of a combination of approx 20 numbers/letters. When I open the file from my "recently viewed" folder the files all say locked. There is no .jpg or .jpeg. When I sort pictures by date, the date that comes up is obviously a date much after the original photo date.

I cannot locate the files ANYWHERE in my computer except whatever is in my recently viewed folder. Thanks for any help!

Sounds like those are temps files that are used to create or move the original file. More than likely they are garbage and cannot be viewed as they are not a "real" file
