Another RAID Question

Raid 5 and 10 should read at the same speed, but 10 generally trumps 5 at writing because it doesn't need to manage parity. Hence, that's why a lot of databases are in raid 10 configurations.
Now, on the other hand, if it's cheaper to do raid 5, then I wouldn't bother.
Actually, it should be about the same depending on the amount of drives actually in the RAID 5. 10 IMO has a higher margin of error with more drives to much up the array. Databases use 10 simply because you have the speed mixed with mirror. In this case, he doesn't exactly need that when a parity would be just fine.

Here again though, my friends 4 drives in RAID 5 sustain a write over 200MB/s coming off his SSD. That should be quick enough for any regular consumer. It's just up to the OP how he wants to do it.

Personally? I think it's all a waste of time.
